Go but don’t gamble is the message to Chinese tourists to Taiwan. Chinese citizens are being encouraged to visit Taiwan, but are prohibited from gambling at the island country’s future casinos, according to a Chinese tourism official.

"It is Taiwan’s own business to legalize gaming. The mainland’s law makes it very clear that gambling is not permitted," Shao Qiwei, director of China’s National Tourism Administration, was quoted in a story from Taiwan News.

Kinmen and other Taiwan-held outlying islands such as Penghu and Matsu are potential sites for Taiwan’s first legal casino following the January passage that permits the opening of casinos on the islands.

According to the report, Taiwan has expanded the daily quota of arrivals from China to 3,000. Taiwan received 300 Chinese tourists per day on average during last six months of 2008 and the average number has doubled to 600 people per day during the first two months of this year.
